Walkers can be used to entertain a baby, especially since some models come with toys attached. A baby can use his legs to make the walker move quickly across the floor. Walkers, made out of metal framing with a fabric-covered chair, suspend babies, ages four months to 18 months, so that their toes can touch the floor. Walkers were 1st perceived as dangerous in 1982 when many medical reports surfaced showing them to cause injury in youngsters below a year old. A Canadian study that looked into 139 walker injuries said the head was the foremost vulnerable part in accidents involving this device.

The state of Washington banned all baby walkers in daycare centers and many other daycare centers have banned them without being regulated for child safety. In a bold move Canada banned the use of baby walkers on April 7th, 2004; this expanded the voluntary ban Canada implemented in 1989. Children using baby walkers have suffered injuries or death because the walker allows them to get into dangerous situations.
